How To Travel For Cheap!

Just because you work hard and travel well does not mean you have to break the bank. I have always been on the lookout for a great deal! When I plan a trip I have tons of windows open on my computer to compare letting a flight deal determine my destination, packaged deals or booking separate flight (with miles redemption or specials) with hotel. I work from an excel worksheet and make the decision after number crunching and reading reviews. Before I book I always check for promotion codes. Here are a few tips to help you travel for cheap.

-Sometimes if you wait to purchase you will receive an email with additional discounts for package deals.

-Sign up for the loyalty programs of major airlines that depart from your nearby airport to receive email specials.

-Best Days to book flights are Tuesday and Wednesday.

-Don’t be afraid to fly out of other airports for a great deal. You can use miles or find a cheap flight deal to a connecting city and save a ton of money. Most deals are out of IAD/ JFK/SEA in the states.

-Make the most out of your trip by adding stopovers. See my previous post on how to obtain free or discounted stopovers.

-Use social media to check for giveaways and specials. See previous post on the best travel accounts to follow.

-Booking through a third party may have stipulations on upgrades, changes and cancellations.

-Discounts are based on availability and not available at every hotel property.

-If you work for a corporation start with looking into the leisure rates you receive. Check the benefits section of your company’s intranet. These discounts tend to be more advantageous than some listed above.

-Check the benefits of some of the memberships you hold. For example if you have a BJ’s Wholesale Membership they provide discount codes.

-Check with airlines for discounts on hotels and rentals cars. I receive numerous specials from Delta as a Skymiles member for discounts on rental cars. This also allows me to receive Delta miles by booking through the provided link.
