Fast Track to Hilton Honors Gold Status in a Week

It’s been a constant desire of mine to understand all of the travel loyalty programs available to me and to understand how I can quickly see the rewards. My previous post included a working list of promo codes for air, hotel and rental cars. I took advantage of the MVP Gold Offer for my October travels. As a refresher, the Hilton MVP Gold offer accelerates you to Gold Status within 4 stays. The normal parameters are 20 stays, 40 nights or 75,000 base points.  In addition there is a separate link to where certain hotels qualify for the MVP rate for 20%. The catch of this program is you must complete four stays in 90 days. Don’t sign up unless you know you will be able to fulfill the 90 day requirement.

Hilton Gold Status benefits include:

  • Earn a 25% bonus on HHonors Base Points on all stays

  • Space-available room upgrades

  • Continental breakfast at select brands

  • Silver, Gold and Diamond elite members will receive every 5th night free on Standard Room Reward stays of 5 nights or more.

Members with Gold status receive all the benefits in the lower tiers:

  • Digital Check-In: choose your room, and customize your stay from your mobile device up to 24 hours in advance.

  • Complimentary in-room and lobby Standard Internet access during stays at Waldorf Astoria™ Hotels & Resorts, Conrad® Hotels & Resorts, Curio – A Collection by Hilton, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton™, Canopy™ by Hilton, Embassy Suites Hotels™ and Hilton Grand Vacations™

  • Quick reservations and check-ins based on your room preferences

  • Late check-out

  • Express check-out

  • 2nd Guest stays free

  • Complimentary access to fitness centers and health clubs5

  • Two complimentary bottles of water per stay (at Waldorf Astoria™ Hotels & Resorts, Conrad® Hotels & Resorts, Curio – A Collection by Hilton, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton™, Embassy Suites Hotels™, Hilton Garden Inn™ and Hilton Grand Vacations™ hotels)

When I booked my rooms for October I only had three properties in mind but 4 separate reservations. I had 2 separate reservations at an Embassy Suites, 1 at a Hampton Inn and 1 at a Doubletree. I honestly had 2 separate reservations at a hotel because my arrival date changed for a conference I was headed to in Fort Lauderdale and for some reason it was actually cheaper to do two than to modify my existing reservation. It worked out perfectly because when I arrived to the Embassy Suites, it was not a good stay. The next day I packed up my stuff and checked my bag with the concierge while I attended conference activities during the day, stay 1 completed. I looked up MVP rates in the area for my next hotel and found out the Hilton Marina was cheaper than Embassy (about $20 a night) and closer to where I needed to go for the next couple of days.  Stay 2 completed. After Fort Lauderdale I headed to Jacksonville for the Georgia Florida game and stayed at the Hampton Inn near the beach. I stayed for one night, stay 3 completed. During my stay I received an email that I received Silver Status. The next day as I headed back to Atlanta, I stopped in Savannah and stayed at the Doubletree in Historic Savannah. Stay 4 completed. I was able to complete four stays in less than a week because I divided up hotel stays instead of having a long three night count as one stay. It’s a bit much for some but it worked out for me due to my travel schedule and also with the conference schedule. I was gone all day so it was easy to check out and check in to the new hotel in the evening and I was able to secure a free ride in between the properties.

How do you sign up to fast track to gold?

  1. Register for the Hilton Honors Program

  2. Register for the fast track to Gold Program Sign up before you stay at hotel.

  3. Look for hotels that qualify for MVP rates for best discounts but all hotels count towards the fast track.

  4. Complete 4 stays in 90 days (break them up into individual stays if you have time).

Some things to note about my experience:

  • I was able to also double dip with Delta and earn miles and 250 Medallion qualification miles because I signed up prior to stay and stayed two nights on one of my stays. I accumalated about 900 Skymiles for the 4 stays.

  • It does take a while for stays to register, so if done within a week you may not get your tier status and bonus miles during the stay.

  • During my stay I asked each hotel what benefits come with the Silver Status I achieved during the trip. Some vary with snacks and things that available when checking in, so it’s always good to ask.

  • It would have been more beneficial to have the 4th stay fall in Jan, so if I completed the 4th stay on December 31st. I would have become a Gold member in Jan of 2016 and it would last until March 2018 versus March 2017 for completing at the end of this year.

  • The program can change at any time, noted in the fine print.
