Are you thinking of taking a road trip in the near future but unsure how to go about planning your adventure? Fear not, we’re here to provide you with five very handy tips to ensure your next trip away is as successful as possible. Here are 5 road trip tips to consider!
1)Make a (loose) plan
You’ll definitely want to come up with a rough sketch of when and where you’re going on your journey – which you can do with the help of several helpful tools available online.
If there are specific destinations you particularly want to check out on your adventure you can factor them in as key points on your route, and then plot the rest of the journey around those locals.
You don’t have to rigidly stick to your original ideas, but they will at least provide you with a rough sketch of what you’ll be doing every day on your travels.
2)Make sure the car is up for the journey.
The last thing you’ll want to have happen is seeing your car break down in the middle of nowhere. While sometimes disasters can strike, you can at least do your part to prevent them from occurring at the worst moments. There are always going to be moments where a car gives out for literally no reason, but sometimes calamity can be prevented if you simply get your vehicle serviced beforehand. It may cost a little bit to get done, but the price will pale in comparison to the costs you’ll need to fork out for assistance if you break down
on the side of the road. You can also compare costs with renting a car.
You might want to plough on at certain points of the journey – sometimes tackling a 6-hour journey head-on might sound like a smart way of cutting down your travel time – but it’ll do your health no good. It’s recommended drivers take routine breaks and three hours should be the maximum amount of time between breaks. During this time be sure to move around and stock up on water and food supplies. If you continue on for too long, you run the risk of becoming fatigued. This will put both you, passengers in your car and other drivers at risk of serious harm.
4)Take entertainment devices
Whether you’re using old-fashioned pen and pad, or carrying electronic games systems with you, make sure you keep something in the car to help you stay entertained at all times.
Yes, a lot of the journey will be taken up by picturesque views you probably won’t want to miss – but that doesn’t mean the entire route is going to be breathtakingly spectacular. Take something to keep people happy – especially kids – when the boredom inevitably begins to set in. Trust us, it will do.
5)Play by the rules
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, it’s critical to ensure you know all the laws of the land when you’re out and about. There are a host of insane laws spread across the world when it comes to driving, so make sure to brush up on those which are going to directly impact your route. The last thing you’ll want is a ticket (and as such excess cost) for something as trivial as using your headlights at the wrong time.
Hopefully these five top tips will help you when it comes to planning your next road trip. Make sure to think ahead and, naturally, have a great time when traveling. Have any tips to recommend for a road trip? Comment below!
